Welcome to Little Dippers!
Little Dippers is our Foundation Stage Unit which includes the Pre-school and Reception children. The children learn and play alongside each other, creating a smooth transition from Pre-school into the beginning of their school years.
Mrs Siddons is the Foundation Stage Leader and is a qualified teacher with a specialism in Early Years education. Teresa Robinson is the Pre-school Leader and Paula Cox is the Pre-school Assistant. The staff have a wealth of experience and knowledge of the Early Years and work collaboratively to ensure that the most important foundations are laid to enable the children to move smoothly into their next stage of learning.
The Little Dippers are encouraged to learn through play and exploration, through being active, creative and thinking critically. The staff aim for the children to be inspired by their experiences; motivated by stimulating environments and equipment; fully engaged in their learning and, ultimately, to be empowered to continue to explore and learn themselves, independently. This is managed through carefully planned lessons and activities and opportunities for adult-led and adult- directed sessions as well as amble opportunity for child-initiated learning
The Little Dippers have daily access to water and sand play, painting and other ‘messy’ activities. There is also access to a range of construction and investigative activities. Exploring and discovering supports their learning and development and they really enjoy it.
The children are provided with a variety of inspiring and stimulating learning spaces both inside and outside which develop all the fundamental aspects that are need to develop throughout the first school years. The children also partake in Forest School with our qualified Forest School Leaders in our amazing outdoor areas.
In Reception, the children are discreetly taught Phonics (using Letters and Sounds), reading, handwriting and mathematical skills. They are also encouraged to use enquiry and develop speaking, listening and social skills.
Little Dippers is a vibrant, nurturing and inspiring place to be and Diptford Primary School is very proud of the start we give to our youngest members of the school.

SUPPORTING LEARNING AT HOME
Please see the documents below for information about how phonics is delivered in school and how you can support this at home.
READING AND WRITING
In Little Dippers, we use a range of manipulatives to support our learning in maths. Our favourite resource to use is Numicon.
Numicon is a range of multi-sensory maths resources using imagery, models and signs to raise mathematical achievement. These resources help children to develop fluency by using a visual, practical base to develop conceptual understanding and fluent recall. Furthermore, it helps children to reason mathematically through the use of concrete objects and spoken language to explain and justify. It will also help children to develop into confident problem-solvers since it provides them with visual a stimulus to support their reasoning communication. Finally, Numicon can help us make confident and competent Mathematicians, as well as making learning fun and interactive.
For more information about Numicon, please click on the link below which will take you to their website.
All children in Little Dippers have a personal online Learning Journey which records photos, observations and comments in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. This enables us to build up a record of each child’s learning and achievements during their time with us.
We use the Tapestry system, which is hosted on secure, dedicated servers based in the UK.
Please see the documents for more information about Tapestry and guidance on how to access it at home.
